The FDA does not regulate our meat. Do not be fooled. Increasing numbers of individuals are poisoned by meat which is processed with many contaminants. This is a recent story on NYTIMES.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
Have you not seen the many videos about food production today? Ground up diseased meat, fat, waste, filth all ground up from many factories coming from different states and countries are blended into your one hamburger. It does not come from one cow that was loved and cared for on a small farm.

VEGETARIANS
Okay. Now I know all the vegetarians out there are shaking their heads. Maybe saying, "I told you so," or talking about some religious laws or ways to live more environmentally friendly, etc. You're all off the hook and don't have to worry about eating tainted meat. But, let's also find some homeopathic solutions when unknowing people purchase and cook a product that will become a toxin in their system.

And, just for the record, we've had quite a bit of tainted spinach in recent years. CDC reports from 2006. And even an outbreak from cookie dough July 2009, pizza and taco bell. Should I tell everyone that we never eat out?

Kitchen Counter Tops Harbor Bacteria
University of Arizona at Tucson study identified the kitchen as the most germ-contaminated area in the home. The study reported that countertops are one of five key "hot zones," or sites with the highest bacteria counts. These hot zones can spread infections when germs are transferred from a contaminated item (your kitchen counter) to your hands to your body.

Stephanie Smith, 22, was paralyzed after being stricken by E. coli in 2007. Officials traced the E. coli to hamburger her family had eaten.

Stephanie Smith was in a coma for nine weeks after being infected with E. coli.
Then her diarrhea turned bloody. Her kidneys shut down. Seizures knocked her unconscious. The convulsions grew so relentless that doctors had to put her in a coma for nine weeks. When she emerged, she could no longer walk. The affliction had ravaged her nervous system and left her paralyzed.

Ms. Smith, 22, was found to have a severe form of food-borne illness caused by E. coli, which Minnesota officials traced to the hamburger that her mother had grilled for their Sunday dinner in early fall 2007.

“I ask myself every day, ‘Why me?’ and ‘Why from a hamburger?’ ”Ms. Smith said. In the simplest terms, she ran out of luck in a food-safety game of chance whose rules and risks are not widely known.

Meat companies and grocers have been barred from selling ground beef tainted by the virulent strain of E. coli known as O157:H7 since 1994, after an outbreak at Jack in the Box restaurants left four children dead. Yet tens of thousands of people are still sickened annually by this pathogen, federal health officials estimate, with hamburger being the biggest culprit. Ground beef has been blamed for 16 outbreaks in the last three years alone, including the one that left Ms. Smith paralyzed from the waist down. This summer, contamination led to the recall of beef from nearly 3,000 grocers in 41 states.

2011 Event | Contaminated Cantaloupe Melons

Eleven illnesses in Colorado, one in Indiana, one in Nebraska, one in Oklahoma and two in Texas are linked to the listeriosis outbreak and contaminated cantaloupes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Jensen Farms said it shipped the recalled cantaloupes to Illinois, Wyoming, Tennessee, Utah, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, Kansas, New Mexico, North Carolina, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arizona, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

Listeriosis usually causes fever, muscle aches and diarrhea  or other gastrointestinal problems, according to the CDC. It can be fatal among high-risk groups of people, such as the elderly, those with compromised immune systems or chronic medical conditions like cancer. Listeriosis can cause miscarriage, stillbirth and serious illness or death in newborn babies.


Year 2012 has seen reduced production of cantaloupes  however improved sanitation techniques have been put into place. Among the improvements are a new washing and cooling system. They also invested into a new system that tracks the fruit from harvest to the consumer's hand. Next year should seen increased crops.

Are you talking about Raw Milk Contamination? "Occurrence of Listeria species in raw milk in farms on the outskirts of Mexico City"
Résumé / Abstract Listerosis may be transmitted by direct contact with infected animals or by consumption of contaminated vegetables or meat and milk products. In Mexico, raw milk is widely consumed and the incidence of milkborne disease is unknown. A total of 1300 raw milk samples were obtained from 20 l bulk tanks at four different dairy farms in southeast of Mexico City from June 1998 to June 1999. The samples were enriched for 48 h at 30°C and plated onto McBride's Modified Agar (MMA). Suspect colonies were biochemically tested to confirm identity Overall, 23% of all raw milk samples examined tested positive for Listeria species; 13% were positive for L. monocytogenes (45.6% were serotype-4b and 54.4% were serotype 1); 6% for L. ivanovii; 4% for L. seeligeri and 1% for L. innocua. L. monocytogenes contamination was more frequent during the spring and summer months as isolation rates were 12.2% from June to October 1998 and 17% from March to June 1999. Serotype-4b isolates were not pathogenic for the mouse, while for serotype-1, strains DL50 ranged from 1.8 × 106 to 4 × 107 CFU ml-1. Additional studies are needed to assess the public health impact of contaminated milk in Mexico.

I believe Raw Milk is much healthier than pasteurized and homogenized, but it must be handled very carefully and with proper sanitation measures.

Recent outbreaks of human tuberculosis in the United States caused by Mycobacterium bovis have implicated cheese originating in Mexico as a source of these infections. A total of 203 samples of cheese originating in Mexico were cultured, and M. bovis was recovered from one specimen. Therefore, M. bovis can be recovered from cheese and may be a source of human infections.

It's amazing what kind of information you can find when you begin to search. I'm wondering what is the half-life of the radioactive fallout out on farm animals and milk? This may explain some infertility and other types of diseases that may require cleansing remedies either low on the periodic chart or from plants.

Two gorillas are suspected of becoming the latest victims of China's
tainted milk-powder health scandal, showing the early signs of kidney
stones, local media reported on Thursday [25 Sep 2008].

The gorillas, both from Hangzhou Wildlife World in eastern Zhejiang
province and aged one and 3, had been diagnosed with crystallization
in their urine, according to a report on the Hangzhou newspaper
website .

Both had been fed with milk powder made by Sanlu Group, at the heart
of the scandal in which 4 infants have died and thousands have fallen
sick with kidney stones.

The company has said the infants became sick after drinking milk
contaminated by melamine, a compound used in making plastics and
added to cheat nutrition tests.

"The crystallization now is very small, but it will grow bigger and
then block the urine," Zhang Xu, a doctor from the animal hospital
where the 2 gorillas were being treated, was quoted as saying. "No
visible stones have been found so far," Zhang added.

Kidney stones are small, solid masses that form when salts or
minerals normally found in urine crystallize inside the kidney.

If they become large enough, they can move out of the kidney, cause
infection and lead to permanent kidney damage.

WHAT DO ALL OF THESE NEWS ARTICLES TELL YOU? Again who can you trust? What products are safe to consume? Do politics run every part of our lives. Can we, the people, make a big enough noise and demand higher standards and have them enforced to feel our food supply is safe?

Brucella Abortus Disease (Brucellosis) in Beef Cattle1

Background
Brucellosis is an infectious and contagious bacterial disease of animals and humans caused by Brucella abortus . The disease primarily affects cattle and the American buffalo. Brucellosis sometimes infects horses, dogs, swine, and humans; however, brucellosis is considered to be a "dead-end disease" in these species, meaning it will not be transmitted to other animals. In the United States, the disease has been a major economic problem for the beef and dairy industries, their consumers and related agricultural industries. Brucellosis once affected more than 10 percent of the cattle population and perhaps as many as 30 percent of the cattle herds in the U.S. Annual production losses to United States dairy producers alone were estimated at $499 million annually in 1951 (1993 dollars) before an eradication program began. After investing over $3.5 billion in state, federal, and industry funds since 1951 in joint state-federal cooperative eradication programs the U.S. has reduced the brucellosis-infected herd count from 124,000 in 1957 to 40 as of November 30, 1996. If there were not a brucellosis eradication program, it is estimated that current losses due to reduced supplies of meat and milk would be in excess of $800 million annually.

Brucellosis Infection In Cattle
In cattle, brucellosis is primarily a disease of the female, the cow. Bulls can be infected but they do not readily spread the disease. The brucellosis organism localizes in the testicles of the bull and produces an orchitis (inflammation of the testicles), whereas in the female the organism localizes in the udder, uterus, and lymph nodes adjacent to the uterus. The infected cows exhibit symptoms which may include abortion during the last third of pregnancy, retained afterbirth, and weak calves at birth. Infected cows usually abort only once. Subsequent calves may be born weak or healthy and normal. Some infected cows will not exhibit any clinical symptoms of the disease and give birth to normal calves. The brucellosis organism is shed by the millions in the afterbirth and fluids associated with calving and aborting. The disease is spread when cattle ingest contaminated forages or lick calves or aborted fetuses from infected cattle. Outside the animal, the afterbirth, and aborted calves the brucella bacteria are easily killed by sunlight, high temperatures and drying; however, the brucella organisms are difficult to control while they are in the animal; there is no economical cure for a brucellosis infected animal.

In Humans
In humans, Brucella abortus causes undulant fever, a disease characterized by intermittent fever, headaches, fatigue, joint and bone pain, psychotic disturbances, and other symptoms. It is contracted through exposure to Brucella abortus -contaminated milk and infected organs from infected animals. Livestock and slaughter industry workers, and consumers of unpasteurized milk and other dairy products made from unpasteurized milk are at the greatest risk of contacting undulant fever. Transmission occurs through contact with the tissues of infected animals at slaughter or ingestion of unpasteurized milk derived from infected cattle. (Note: Currently only one dairy herd in the US is known to be infected with brucellosis).

Abstract
It is a dogma, that RB51 vaccination does not induce antibodies that interfere with Brucellosis diagnosis, therefore any animal positive to serological test is considered as an infected animal. To determine protection against Brucellosis virulent field strain, 35 pregnant cows from a free-Brucellosis herd, previously vaccinated as calves with 1×1010 CFU of RB51, were revaccinated with RB51 reduced dose, and then introduced into a herd with an active outbreak. Seventeen cows resulted positive in card test after revaccination. All 35 pregnant revaccinated cows had normal parturition; nevertheless, RB51 vaccine strain was isolated from milk and vaginal exudates from two cows after delivery at day 120 post-revaccination. At 150 days post-revaccination, two cows were positives to card and rivanol test and the field virulent strain was isolated. Revaccination with a reduced dose of RB51 in endemic zones did not cause abortion and protected 94%of animals against field infection, but caused an atypical response to conventional serological tests.

Brucellosis in Mexico

A recent outbreak in Guanajato reminds us that brucellosis remains a very common disease in Mexico. In fact, current rates are comparable to those of Greece, and similar to rates that existed in the United States during the 1930’s and 1940’s. See graph:

Time and Place:
- Highest rates are found in Queretaro, Coahuila, Guanajuanto, Nuevo Leon, Chicuahua, Jalisco, Tamaulipas and Michoacan.
- 163 fatal cases were reported during 1978 to 1982
- Mortality rates were 0.04 per 100,000 in 1992; 0.01 per 100,000 in 1996 .

Seroprevalence surveys:
3.42% nationwide, ranging from 0.24% in Morelos, to 13.5% in Mexico State (1992 publication)
0.71% of blood donors in northeastern Mexico (2009 publication)
0.238% of equines in Tamaulipas (Brucella abortus, 2006 publication)
9.8% of goats on farms (Brucella melitensis). (Michoacan, 2007 publication)

Infecting species:
- Brucella melitensis, B. abortus and B. canis are found in Mexico.
- The predominant species is Brucella melitensis. (1968 to 1991)

Reservoirs:
- The caprine seropositivity rate was 20.7% in 1947.
- Highest rates of caprine disease are reported in Coahuila, Chihuahua, Jalisco and Zacatecas.
- Highest rates of bovine disease are reported in Chihuahua, Hidalgo and Guanajuato.
- 11.8% of stray dogs in Mexico City are infected by Brucella canis.

Vehicles:
- Most infections are acquired from unpasteurized milk, fresh cheese and other dairy products – primarily from goats (There are over 9 million goats in Mexico).
- More than 35% of cow milk is consumed unpasteurized – more than 85% of goat milk.
